Foodlion Company History Timeline: Food Lion commemorates 60 years of offering community sustenance.
In addition to offering consumers the chance to win a $10 gift card, the company will randomly select customers at each of its more than 1,000 stores to celebrate this significant milestone and continue the long-standing tradition.
A time capsule ceremony featuring artefacts contributed by stores throughout ten states will take place at 11 a.m. at the company’s headquarters in Salisbury, North Carolina.

When four fortunate customers present their personal MVP card at each Food Lion location on December 12th, they will instantly enjoy a 60% discount.
The discount will be automatically subtracted at checkout. Additionally, starting at 1:00 p.m. every hour, the first consumer to correctly answer a trivia question will receive a $10 Food Lion gift card.
Workers will also participate in the festivities. Each shop commemorates its anniversary by sharing memories with the store crew.
In addition, Food Lion hosted many events a year in collaboration with the community to commemorate its 60th anniversary as part of The Great Pantry MakeoverTM.
In 2017, the business renovated and restocked 60 food pantries for the 60th year in a row. Through this effort, Food Lion contributed over 2.5 million meals and 2,000 volunteer hours, making it the year’s most extensive associate volunteering program.
Furthermore, partners and leaders joined forces in September to set a Guinness World record for the “Most Bagged Lunches in an Hour.”
The 10,320 lunches at the Hot Springs, Virginia, market where the event was held were donated to nearby food banks and schools. In October, a 6km Lions Run was also conducted.
It began and ended at the Salisbury, North Carolina, Food Lion #1 store. The event raised $250,000 in meals, all donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte and Rowan Helping Ministries in Salisbury, North Carolina.
